John Legend’s Powerful Op-Ed on Supporting Criminal Justice Reforms: ‘The Future and Freedoms of Our Country Depend On Them”

John Legend penned an op-ed in USA Today on June 21st discussing the need to support criminal justice reform and elect progressive prosecutors.

While issues such as abortion, voting rights, mental health, and trans health are being debated, Legend gives examples of states creating laws that protect people from running over protestors with their cars (OK & IA)

As well as a law making it a crime to give voters water and food while in line. (GA) He discussed abortion laws that would jail people and doctors. Doctors are also under fire if they provide gender-affirming care.

“It’s not radical to dream of a more free America,” Legend said. “And it’s possible to protect our basic rights – to choose what to do with our bodies, to vote and protest, to protect our kids’ health – by choosing the right prosecutors to enforce our laws.”
