Alexis Ohanian announced last week that he would step down from Reddit. Ohanian, who co-founded the website, said he would no longer serve on the board and would use his future gains from Reddit stock to help black communities.

After the announcement, Alexis sat down with wife and tennis star, Serena Williams to discuss his decision on her weekly special, “Serena Saturdays.”

“A lot of people might think I told you to do something, or I forced you—he doesn’t listen to me, ever,” said Serena. Alexis spoke about his daughter Olympia and the tough conversation she’ll have in the future with them about how she’ll have to work harder because of the color of her skin.

“I’m sitting here like, if I’m this pissed off just now, like how have you been able to endure your entire life? How have generations of Black Americans been able to endure your entire life?” said Ohanian.

I co-founded @reddit 15 years ago to help people find community and a sense of belonging.
It is long overdue to do the right thing. I’m doing this for me, for my family, and for my country. I’m saying this as a father who needs to be able to answer his black daughter when she asks: What did you do? I have resigned as a member of the reddit board, I have urged them to fill my seat with a black candidate, and I will use future gains on my Reddit stock to serve the black community, chiefly to curb racial hate, and I’m starting with a pledge of $1M to @kaepernick7’s @yourrightscamp
I believe resignation can actually be an act of leadership from people in power right now. To everyone fighting to fix our broken nation: do not stop.
